Spring is coming

Here are a few things going on around the homestead as we prepare for Spring!

This is our original elderberry bush that I planted 2 years ago. It has already propagated
The girls and I planted an elderberry patch. We cut down an azalea and added new cuttings from the side of the road. This is where our washing machine drains and elderberry loves water!
A new persimmon that we were given by the local master gardeners!
We also planted elderberry around one of the ponds

We have planted figs along the front fence to privacy and more figs. Each of our fig trees came from our Mama fig tree that we think is at least 30 years old
Adam and the boys built a chicken run for a few chickens to help us weed different garden beds. Zeb is installing the feeder in the picture
I ordered 8 flats of strawberries. We ate 4 flats and we froze 4 flats
Madelynn fell asleep by the fire one night as we were listening to Fellowship of the Ring
We made pork-rabbit-squirrel burgers and they were so delicious!

A few rabbits have been upgraded to a chicekn tractor. Although 4 of these rabbits were used for the burgers

Farm Day

Adam and I recently started a Facebook Homestead group. We have felt quite alone and misunderstood for many years about how we live our life. We were a part of a homestead group about 45 minutes away and we wondered, “are there any people like us, near us?” Within a few days of starting the group, we had 60 people in the group with many participating and asking questions. We decided to host the first event. We had a seed swap and then allowed people to come and tour the property and ask questions. It was a busy day (and we forgot to take pictures until after) but we were so encouraged. The kids sold things they had made and we traded knowledge and encouragement. We are so excited for what the future holds with this group!
